What does multiscale mean?

A multiscale guitar uses different scale lengths across the strings. In the Fostinis layouts, the bass side has the longer scale and the treble side the shorter scale. The fret angles follow those lengths, giving the arrangement its familiar “fanned fret” name.

Parallel frets use one nominal scale length across the instrument. Choosing multiscale is a separate decision from choosing the number of strings: 6-, 7- and 8-string Fostinis guitars offer it. Tell Jimmy about your tuning and preferred string gauges so those choices can be considered together.

All six configurations have 24 frets. The multiscale layouts use fret 7 as the neutral fret. These specifications are shared across the Sphyx, Oryx and Matadaur; choose your model for its original outline, then choose the layout.

Pickups and bridge placement belong to the same plan.

The bridge saddles and pickup positions must follow the selected string layout. The showroom updates these positions and presents matched extended-range hardware choices. The original body horns and outline remain consistent when multiscale is selected.

For a pickup or bridge outside the listed choices, submit a custom request. Exact fit, component availability and the final specification are confirmed with your build. The displayed total reflects the selected configuration.

Deciding between parallel and fanned frets.

Start with the instrument you play now: note its scale, tuning and what you want to feel different. Changing scale, strings and setup together can affect the result, so use the design review to discuss the combination rather than choosing from appearance alone. The online preview shows the layout; it cannot tell you how a neck will feel in your hands.

Explore the 7-string guide if you also want an additional string, or the left-handed options. You can save and share the configured guitar before ordering. Fostinis ships throughout the United States; contact Jimmy to confirm your build and delivery details.
